Allahabad, May 3 (ANI): Several people were injured when a group of lawyers attacked doctors while they were taking out a peaceful protest march in Allahabad on Saturday.
The police took action immediately and quelled the violent clashes, which erupted when scores of doctors and health professionals attacked the doctors, who they claim are responsible for the death of their colleague Laxmikant Mishra.
"We were protesting in a peaceful manner. When our procession was passing through the court complex then advocates attacked us and pelted stones on us in which some doctors received injuries...they also kept some doctors as hostages who were later rescued by the police," said Vijay Maurya, a doctor.
Earlier this week, a group of agitated lawyers had ransacked a local hospital after the death of their Mishra. Lawyers alleged that Mishra died due to the negligence of doctors who stopped his treatment on account of non-payment of bills.
Officials said the situation was under control and vigil was being maintained in sensitive areas. (ANI)
