New Delhi on alert as swine flu suspects admitted to RML

The three persons have been found suspects of Swine flu (H1N1 virus) in the national capital that has put New Delhi on its toe.


According to sources, as much as three suspect cases of swine flu – that is now defined as influenza A by world health organisation (WHO) – has been detected from Indira Gandhi International airport (IGIA) since Friday.

 

All the three suspects are Non-resident Indians in which two of them are reportedly known as Paramjit Kaur and Jagjivaan Singh, residing in Fatehabad in Punjab, and the third one was recognized as Ashwani Kumar.


All of them have been sent to New Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) hospital on Saturday Morning, where they are kept under observation.


The first two suspects arrived at New Delhi by American Airlines flight on Friday night. They were coming from Chicago and were the visitors of infected areas– Texas and Chicago – of influenza A. Both were suffering from fever, soar throat and higher respiration.


Viewing the similar symptoms of H1N1 infection, doctors advised them to be quarantined at the RML hospital, which is reportedly fully prepared to tackle influenza A disease, according to hospital sources.


Ashwani was coming from London through British Airport and was scheduled to go to New York but doctors at IGIA found him the suspects of swine flu viewing the analogues symptoms of the deadly disease.


All the three have been put under observation in separated wards. The blood samples have been collected and forwarded to National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) for laboratory tests, hospital sources informed.


According to Health Ministry official, in the last two days five more persons have been brought to RML in the suspect of swine flu infection, but all of them have been detected negative.


To tackle the cases of H1N1 infection, the union health department has ensured the availability of 10-million pills of Tamiflu as per calculation of 10 pills per patient. For this, the ministry has convened a meeting with the pharmaceutical companies to make availability of the drugs of this fatal disease. The pharma companies have ensured the government to provide the adequate doses of drugs very soon.


These drugs will not be available on medical and drug stores but will be provided through the public health systems.


For strict vigilance, India has increased surveillance at all international airports and ports and made it mandatory for all passengers to go under medical check-ups who are coming from swine flu infected countries.
