New Delhi, May 1 (IANS) The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Friday sought the chief election commissioner's (CEC) intervention on a newspaper advertisement by the government-run Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority.
The party was reacting to the advertisement published the same day announcing a new pension system for all eligible citizens in the age group of 18-55.
In a letter to CEC Navin Chawla, CPI-M politburo member Brinda Karat said: 'We wish to bring to your notice the advertisement issued by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority published in The Hindu today.
'This advertisement is a clear violation of the model code of conduct issued by the Election Commission. We seek your appropriate intervention in this matter,' said Brinda Karat in the letter.
In another letter to the CEC, the CPI-M leader also sought re-poll in some polling stations in Darjeeling Lok Sabha constituency in West Bengal which held elections Thursday. The party alleged subversion of democratic rights by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha activists in three hill subdivisions.
CPI-M candidate Jibesh Sarkar was in a direct fight against senior BJP leader and former central minister Jaswant Singh in Darjeeling.
