CPM politburo member Sitaram Yechury attacked Congress and BJP for remaining failed at people’s expectation and said the countrymen eagerly waiting for non-Congress, non-BJP secular government at the Centre to be capable of pursuing people-friendly economic policies.

People fed up of the Congress and BJP government like changes. The nine-party Third Front is better prepared to rise at the people’s expectation to check adverse impact of economic recession on organised as well as unorganised sectors.

“The country needs a new government which can pursue fresh, people-friendly economic policies,” Yechury said addressing a press conference.

The communalism and terrorism dominate the Third Front’s priority list, which would be dealt in an organised way by streamlining and strengthening security agencies instead of implementing new terror laws or reviving POTA as pressed by Congress and BJP.

About United Left Bloc in Bihar, the CPM stalwart asserted it as a positive development which may influence politics in future. All the socialist and communist parties in Bihar are fraying polls together.

Lashing out at BJP for the demolition of Babri mosque in Ayodhya, Yechury said the BJP played the role of the assassinator. He also accused Congress for remaining failed in its duty as police captain to protect the Babri mosque.

CPM general secretary Prakash Karat in a veiled attempt to sideline Manmohan Singh as the Congress candidate for prime ministership said only a Lok Sabha member should be considered for the top post. The target was Manmohan Singh, a Rajya Sabha member and the next prime minister if Congress comes to power, who has declared not to contest Lok Sabha polls.
