New Swine Flu cases reported in US, Canada

As the World Health Organisation (WHO) warns that the situation continues to evolve rapidly, new Swine Flu cases have been reported in United States of America and Canada on Tuesday; however, all cases are mild and no fatal in nature.

Mayor of New York City Michael Bloomberg said that 44 swine flu cases have been confirmed and expected new cases might arise in the coming days as tests continue at Saint Francis High School in Queens with severe flu symptoms.

Reportedly, the particular school students had a trip to Mexico last week, where the outbreak first erupted and over 150 people have died of suspected swine flu ever since the first case came up. Many schools remained closed Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Mexican authorities have corrected the number of deaths due to the swine flu to seven from the previous 20.

Defining public safety the foremost, New York Governor David Paterson in an assurance message said they are taking all precautionary steps to contain this virus. 'This is not a time for alarm. But it is a time to be alert,' he added.

This apart, the US has confirmed 64 cases, Canada 13, New Zealand 11, Scotland two and Spain two. Seven new cases have been reported in Canada including four in around Toronto in Ontario province.

Canada's chief medical officer David Butler-Jones appealed to people to contact their doctors immediately if they show symptoms of the virus.

WHO advises no restrictions on regular travel or closure of borders. It is considered prudent for people who are ill to delay international travel and for people developing symptoms following international travel to seek medical attention, in line with guidance from national authorities.
