Special panel to decide Varun's political fate

BJP’s Pilibhit candidate varun Gandhi, who is out on parole, has the D-Day today as a special panel of the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court will decide on the case against him under the National Security Act (NSA). The parole expires on May 1.

The three-member board headed by Allahabad High Court (Lucknow Bench) senior judge Pradeep Kant, including two retired judges, has the statutory authority to either approve or annul the government’s order booking Varun under the stringent NSA. The verdict of the advisory board is final and cannot be challenged.

His political career would come to an end as he will be barred from contesting elections if he is found convicted by the court. On the contrary, if the panel decides to revoke the NSA, the 29-year-old Varun will be released with immediate effect.

The NSA was slapped by the Uttar Pradesh government earlier this month after he spilled out the hate and inflammatory speech against Muslims during a public meeting in his Pilibhit constituency earlier.

Meanwhile, Varun Gandhi on Tuesday at an election rally in Shahjahanpur, UP, said he was determined to promoting nationalism irrespective of the NSA slapped against him one time or four times.

"I will never backtrack from my decision to promote and strengthen nationalism. For this, I don't care if NSA is imposed on me one time or four times," he said.
