Don't deregister Tamil schools with few students in Malaysia: TYBC

Tue, 01 Jan 2008 ANI

Kuala Lumpur, July 29 (ANI): National Council of Tamil Youth Bell Club (TYBC) has urged Malaysian Education Ministry to not deregister schools with 50 or fewer children.

TYBC president P. Ponniah said that many estate Tamil schools had fewer than 50 children per school and should be allowed to continue and not merged.

Malaysia Nanban quoted him as saying that the schools' management should open the schools to families in nearby new housing estates.

Ponniah said that at present many parents were forced to send their children to national schools, as there were no Tamil schools nearby and also because of the transportation problems.

He urged political parties to hold talks with the Ministry in opening new Tamil schools in housing estates with Indian majority.

Ponniah said this would ensure that the number of Tamil schools in this country would not be reduced.

Meanwhile, Human Resource Minister S. Subramaniam said that registered Hindu temples in the country would be allowed to get foreign help in terms of priests, musicians and artisans.

He said that approval would only be given to new applications and Hindu temples needing the services of theses people could submit their applications from now. (ANI)
