South Korean delegation in North Korea for talks

Asia, Tue, 21 Apr 2009 IANS

Seoul, April 21 (Xinhua) A South Korean delegation reached North Korea Tuesday morning to participate in talks amid mounting tensions in the Korean Peninsula.

'The delegation has crossed the border,' a spokesman of South Korea's Unification Ministry said.

It would be the first time that South Korea and North Korea hold talks since South Korean President Lee Myung-bak took office in February 2008.

North Korea had last Thursday offered to hold the talks with South Korea.

The talks come amid mounting tensions on the Korean Peninsula after North Korea launched a rocket earlier this month despite warnings by the US, South Korea and Japan.
