228 nominations for seven Delhi seats

New Delhi, April 18 (IANS) As nominations for the polls to the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi closed Saturday, the election office said 228 candidates had filed their nominations.

 

The highest number of nominations - 56 - are from New Delhi seat and the lowest - 22 each - are from Northwest Delhi and South Delhi, a statement from the poll panel said.

 

 

Chandni Chowk has 45 candidates. Northeast Delhi, East Delhi and West Delhi have 30, 27 and 26 respectively.

 

 

The nomination process that started April 11 culminated Saturday. The numbers may still change, as the last day for withdrawal of candidature is April 22.

 

 

Delhi Congress chief J.P. Aggarwal and Ramesh Kumar, beleaguered party leader Sajjan Kumar's brother, nominated by the party from northeast Delhi and south Delhi respectively, filed their nominations Saturday.

 

 

They were picked after the party dropped Sajjan Kumar and Jagdish Tytler due to the controversy that erupted the Central Bureau of Investigation gave a clean chit to Tytler in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.

 

 

Ramesh Kumar declared assets of over Rs.4 crore (Rs.40 million) as his movable and immovable property, which includes one car.
