Pune, April 18 (IANS) Two eight-year-old boys froze to death inside a heavy duty refrigerator while playing hide and seek in a Maharashtra town, police said.

The chilling incident occurred Friday evening in Jejuri, about 60 km from here. The victims were identified as Rishikesh Jaimallar Lakhe and Shah Rukh Abdbul Khan.

While playing, Rishikesh and Shah Rukh hid inside the heavy duty refrigerator storing poultry products, P.D. Modak of Jejuri police station told IANS Saturday.

The two could not open the door of the fridge and are believed to have died after a few hours. They were among a larger group of children but the others dispersed after playing.

Their stiff ice-covered bodies were recovered just before midnight from the refrigerator after the families launched a frantic search, Modak said. The refrigerator belongs to Rishikesh's businessman father.
