Hindu leader Zed urges all religions to announce a climate change policy
Welcoming the Anglican Communion's strong statement on climate change at historic Lambeth Conference in United Kingdom (UK) yesterday, acclaimed Hindu leader Rajan Zed has urged the religions and denominations world over to come up with a clear policy on environment issue and urge their followers to work on it.
In a statement in Nevada (USA) today, Zed stressed that human activities are causing change in earth's climate, accumulation of greenhouse gases, and composition of the atmosphere. Religions can prove very effective in influencing the citizens of the world to take up the cause of the environment and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, he added.
Zed, who is the president of Universal Society of Hinduism, is of the view that moral ground in support of the cause of the environment will have far reaching effects as compared to political, economic, and social logic.
Ten yearly Lambeth Conference of worldwide Anglicans, a Christian denomination, who number around 77 million, is meeting at Canterbury (UK) till August three. Hinduism, oldest and third largest religion of the world, has about one billion followers.
