Ahmedabad, July 27 (ANI): The death toll in yesterday's Ahmedabad serial blasts has reached up to 45 and is expected to rise further. As many as 16 remote triggered blasts had rocked the city a day after multiple explosions took place in Bangalore.

Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil convened a high-level meeting this morning to review security situation throughout the country in the wake of the serial blasts in the two cities.

The serial blasts in Ahmedabad injured at least 90 people who were admitted in several hospitals, including Vadilal Sarabhai Hospital, Civil Hospital and LG Hospital. The blasts took place within a span of 60-70 minutes in crowded market areas of the city.

The blasts mainly took place in areas like Maninagar (an Assembly segment represented by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi), Isanpur, Narol circle, Bapunagar, Hatkeshwar, Sarangpur bridge, Sarkhej, Odhav, Sardar Patel market, Civil hospital, Juhapura, Ambur tower building, Raipur and Gowribhadi.

There were three blasts in Maninagar--the constituency of Chief Minister Narendra Modi--and two in Sarkhej targetting a State transport CNG bus and near the old Sangam theatre.

The bombs were put in tiffin boxes and strapped on to bicycles. Following the blasts, a nationwide alert has been sounded. (ANI)
