Shimla, April 14 (IANS) The Election Commission has asked the Himachal Pradesh chief minister and his cabinet colleagues not to participate in functions to celebrate the state's foundation day Wednesday in view of the model code of conduct.

'Chief Secretary Asha Swaroop would preside over the state-level (foundation day) function in Bilaspur district. The deputy commissioners would preside over the district-level functions,' an official statement said.

Swaroop told IANS: 'The Election Commission has asked the chief minister (Prem Kumar Dhumal) and his colleagues not to preside over the statehood functions. They can participate in the functions, but can't sit on dais and make political speeches.'
