Peshawar, July 26 (ANI): The Taliban has ganged-up with Sunni Muslims against an enclave of Shiites settled in Parachinar, near Peshawar for centuries.
The Taliban, which has solidified control across Pakistan's tribal zone and is seeking fresh grounds to attack American soldiers in Afghanistan, has exploited a long-running sectarian conflict that has left the town under siege.
According to the New York Times, the Pakistani Government has been unable to enforce law and order in this highly sensitive border area, leading to people becoming refugees in their own land.
Little seems to hinder the Taliban, since the army has agreed to a peace deal with Baitullah Mehsud, the Pakistan Taliban leader.
Shiites are of the opinion that the Taliban is attacking them because they are stopping the militants from entering Afghanistan.
About 80 percent of Pakistan's overwhelmingly Muslim population is Sunni. (ANI)
