Sep 09: The opposition party congress along with CPI, CPM, and OGP has called for a statewide bandh on Monday, Sep 10 in an opportunity to underline the BJD-BJP coalition government’s failure in various Orissa development issues. Primarily the Congerss party has outlined several common issues related to public interest in which Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has failed to accomplish.

In fact the recent incident of cholera in which over 200 people have been died so far as per the official report, brought another chance for the opposition to blame the ruling alliance. The cholera death row undoubtedly explains the state government’s inability to tackle health problems in those rural areas of Koraput, Rayagada and Kalahandi district.

Other issues that are being marked by the opposition are large scale female foeticide, fake drug racket, mark sheet scam involving the state education minister, pitiable law and order situation with the spread of naxalites, and also corruption in various fields.

The Orissa Pradesh Congres Committee president, Mr Jayadev Jena has criticised Mr. Naveen Patnaik for failing to check corruption in all fronts and also now the health of the people in female foeticide and cholera epidemic episodes.

With the effect of strike all educational institutions, business organisations will be closed for 12 hrs counting from 6 am to 6 pm on Monday, Sep 10. Considering the support of other opposition parties of the state the bandh is expected to affect public life extensively with no transport facilities. However, administration has claimed to pass the bandh with all necessary arrangements.

Meanwhile, the party representatives from different districts and blocks are also trying from the last couple of weeks to convince people for the purpose of the bandh thereby seeking people support.

As Orissa is always marked with starvation deaths and poverty, the government needs to do a lot in terms of education, health and agriculture instead of its immediate focus on industrialisation. In fact these are the pressing need of the hour and failure to do so only further support opposition to raise voice and eventually the people.
