PCB seeks information from IPL over contracted players

Lahore, Fri, 10 Apr 2009 ANI

Lahore, Apr.10 (ANI): With uncertainty looming over the participation of Pakistan players in the second season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has sought information from the IPL management regarding their status.

According to Dawn, even though the players have an independent contract with the IPL, the PCB wants the league management to clarify its stand on the issue.

Seven Pakistani players, Salman Butt, Shoaib Malik, Umar Gul, Sohail Tanvir, Kamran Akmal, Misbah-ul-Haq and Mohammad Hafeez are still associated with the IPL, but it is uncertain whether they would play in the second season or not.

These players have also been included in Pakistan's national squad for the upcoming series against Australia, so the PCB would not release them for the initial stage of the league, which will continue till May 24.

It is however highly unlikely that IPL franchises would recall the Pakistan players, as they had earlier refused to play in the league when it was being held in India, following a call from their government.

Several star players like Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Akhtar, Shoaib Malik, Younis Khan, and Salman Butt featured in the IPL's inaugural season last year. (ANI)
