NSUI bags all four seats in DUSU polls

New Delhi, Sat, 08 Sep 2007 NI Wire

Sep 08: NSUI has emerged as the sole winner in Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) polls here.

NSUI swept all the four posts with very high margin. Amrita Bahri, Devraj Tehlan, Manish Choudhary, and Khusbu Sharma have been elected as the President, Vice-President, Secretary and Joint-secretary respectively.

The report of enforcement of Lyndoh Committee recommendation, and the lavish campaigning for the elections seems to go in different direction. Based on this report it was recommended that, DUSU office bearers should submit the audited account of expenditure within ten days of the declaration of the result, and the expenses should limit to Rs 5,000 per candidate.

The past election of the Student Union in various parts of the countries had shown increased rate of crime and misconduct among student. Supreme Court on Friday said the day is not far when Dadagiri and Goondagiri would have to be incorporated as the educational curriculum.

Under Lyndoh Committee recommendation, attending of classes regularly, no political funding, no police record and no poster for the campaigning are the main instruction to be kept in mind before allowing the contestant to contest.

Against the recommendation, outsiders were found to be campaigning and 50 outsiders were detained for the same also there were innumerable printed posters lying on the campus, as the set of rules also strictly does not allow the use of printed posters.

Only 25% voters turned out for the pole, this low turnout is also seen as a result of the Lyndoh Committee recommendation.

Supreme Court noticed the violation of the recommendation and the bench comprising Arijit Pasayat and S.Sathasivam said “our idea of college election is that they should by student first and leaders later. What is happening are they become leaders first and students later. They are full time leaders and part time students.

The result is out, but blame game has already started, as the opponent parties not seem to be satisfied with the result. The violation of the recommendations which was noticed by Supreme Court will decide the future of the election. Many states have banned student election.
