Meerut police get SMS threatening blasts
Meerut, April 7 (IANS) A police official in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh received a message on his mobile phone warning of blasts in the area, a senior police official
V.K. Sharma, a video-conferencing operator posted at Meerut Zone Inspector General (IG)'s office, received the message from an anonymous caller about 1.15 p.m. Monday, following which he informed the IG.
Confirming the threat, IG Gurbachan Lal said, 'One of our staff officers received a text message on his mobile phone that read 'Blast On Festival...Ga..a'.'
He added they have passed the information to all districts and sounded a general alert among police, particularly in Gautam Budh Nagar and Ghaziabad and Ghazipur districts, asking them to be extra alert in view of the festivals and approaching general elections.
