Jharkhand politicians use poll songs to woo voters

Ranchi, Sat, 04 Apr 2009 ANI

Ranchi, Apr 4 (ANI): With an eye on the upcoming general elections, Jharkhand's politicians are wooing voters through songs in the local dialect.

This is the latest gimmick adopted by them to reach out to voters.

Local singers and music composers in Ranchi are busy these days recording several songs for various political parties. It is like a festive occasion for us. We are composing songs for different political parties like the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Congress and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). We pay equal attention to all songs," said Bullu Ghosh, a music composer and singer.

"We create these songs with the aim that the message of the parties comes across and the song also becomes a hit with people," he added.

Poll campaigns have also become hi-tech with video games, SMS's, election portals, songs and even music videos replacing the brochures and posters of the past.

The decision of the Congress to get a copyright of the Oscar winning song "Jai Ho" has accelerated the 'rat-race' among political parties.

Elections in Jharkhand are to be held on April 16, April 22 and 23.

India will hold general elections between April 16 and May 13, in which approximately 714 million people would be eligible to cast their votes.

The results would be known only after May 16. (ANI)
