Caracas, March 30 (IANS) Seven people, including a 9-year-old girl, were killed and one was reported missing when a small boat sank off eastern Venezuela, an emergency department official said Monday.
Seven people were rescued following the shipwreck, said Beltran Velasquez, the emergency management office coordinator in the eastern coastal region.
'All indications are that the shipwreck was caused by a strong wind gust,' Velasquez said.
The boat had the capacity to hold five or six people, but it was carrying about 15 people, all of them from coastal towns near the city of Cumana, the official said.
