Govinda not to contest Lok Sabha polls
Mumbai, Mar 30 (ANI): Actor-turned- politician Govinda on Monday announced that he would not contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, as the environment in the party was not conducive to his contesting the polls.
"There are a lot of things that are not shown clearly in politics. People are not working the way they should be working together in the party. There are some problems because of which people have a problem working with me. So, I did not find it appropriate to ask for a party ticket," Govinda said.
When asked about whether he would campaign for Bollywood actor and Samajwadi Party (SP) leader from Lucknow parliamentary constituency, Sanjay Dutt, Govinda said: Why not? Sanjay is family. We have done six films together in which six were Hits.
He also expressed his gratitude to the Congress leader who supported him.
"I am thankful to every body who showed faith on me, especially to the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Chairperson Sonia Gandhi who supported me in spite of all the controversies," he added.ovinda is the Congress MP from Mumbai North parliamentary constituency. He won the 2004 Lok Sabha elections after defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Ram Naik. (ANI)
