Colombo, March 30 (IANS) The US Agency for International Development (USAID) Monday donated equipment and basic medical supplies to Sri Lanka to treat 50,000 civilians in hospitals in the northeast.
James R. Moore, deputy chief of mission at the US embassy, made the symbolic presentation to Health Care and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva, the mission said in a statement.
The US donation, valued at $77,000, includes five kits with basic medical care items such as bandages, medicines, supplies and equipment. These will be given to hospitals in Vavuniya, Mannar, Trincomalee and Anuradhapura.
Since 1956, USAID/Sri Lanka has invested nearly $2 billion to benefit the people of Sri Lanka.
