Baby selling racket exposed in Delhi

Sep 03: In another sting operation by a TV channel CNN IBN, exposing a baby selling racket in Delhi by a placement agency in Adivasi Sewa Samiti office in Shakarpur. These placement agencies are becoming a breeding centre of such crimes.

The placement agencies traffic minor tribal girls from Jharkhand, Bihar and West Bengal and either sold them for domestic help or are impregnated forcefully and sell the babies to the couples looking for child adoption.

The two decoys of the channel posing as a couple want to buy a child went to placement agency to strike the deal. The placement agency is owned by Vinod and Preeti, who told that they charge Rs 10,000 per child. The investigating team also met Sukhmai, a young girl who delivered a baby a few days ago.

After the revelations by the channel, Delhi police went on to hunt the culprit, and arrested Benjamin the other partner of Vinod, and Preeti has been sent to 14 days judicial custody. Vinod is absconding.

Child Welfare Committee has asked for strong action against the culprits.

According to sources, the girls were forced to make physical relation with the agents to conceive, and some time sent to homes of those who wanted children to have sex with the person who wants baby.

Such placement agencies in many part of Delhi are booming, and are going unnoticed. As per the sources these placement agencies had been operating since 5 years. And they are doing this business from the new location since one and half year.

This case has again raised various question, on the laws to check such illegal placement agencies and ‘taken for granted attitude’ of the landlords who in spite of the guidance given by police fail to keep all the information about the tenant. Though in this case the land lady help the culprit to be arrested, as she found them a bit suspicious, but there will be many such agencies doing business by selling babies or forcing those girls to prostitution.

The ignorant couples, who want to avoid the time taking procedure of Legal Adoption, unknowingly help such cruelties to propagate in the society at the cost of somebody’s innocence, as there will be hundreds of such agencies selling babies or forcing those girls to prostitution.
