Jharkhand legislator quits Congress, joins RJD for ticket
Ranchi, March 29 (IANS) Thomas Hansda, a Congress legislator in Jharkhand, Sunday said he had quit the party and joined the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), as he hoped to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Rajmahal.
In the seat-sharing understanding between the Congress and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), the Rajmahal Lok Sabha seat has been given to the latter.
Hansda, who was eyeing a ticket for the seat, reacted sharply.
'I was a dedicated Congress worker for 27 years. I was state president three times. I had not imagined the kind of treatment I got from the party,' Hansda told reporters.
'RJD has assured me they will field me from Rajmahal,' he added.
Hansda had won the Rajmahal seat in 1998 and 1999 but lost in 2004, when Hemlal Murmu of JMM had won.
The RJD has announced it will fight four Lok Sabha seats in the state, including Rajmahal.
