Gwalior, Mar 28 (ANI): In order to ensure smooth functioning during the general elections, the authorities in Madhya Pradesh have directed the local licensed arms holders to deposit their arms.
The arms holders have been asked to deposit their arms either with their area's local police station or respective arms dealers.
According to the standard routine across India, all private arms owners have to surrender their arms temporarily.
"We are depositing the arms of the private license holders at the police stations. We are also keeping a strict watch on sensitive areas which are considered critical and hyper critical and where there have been instances of violence during previous elections," said Bhagwat Singh Chauhan, Additional Superintendent of Police.
The residents say they are quite happy with the authorities' decision and deem it necessary for hassle free polls.
"I have come here to surrender my gun. It is the orders of the administration and it is our duty to comply with the orders," said Ghanshyam Das, a resident.
Indian authorities are also stepping up security for political leaders, fearing possible militant attacks as the general election approach. By Ashok Pal (ANI)
