Bhubaneswar, March 26 (IANS) Orissa's ruling Biju Janata Dal Thursday announced Oriya film actor Siddhanta Mohapatra would be its candidate from the Berhampur Lok Sabha seat.
Mohapatra's name has figured in the first list of party candidates released here by Chief Minister and BJD chief Naveen Patnaik for eight Lok Sabha seats and 59 assembly seats in the state.
Mohapatra, who has played lead roles in dozens of films, joined the BJD earlier this month.
Other prominent names in the list include sitting legislator Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo (Bolangir) and Rohit Pujari - who resigned as Youth Congress President and joined the BJD Wednesday - from the Sambalpur Lok Sabha seat.
Prominent among the list of candidates for the assembly poll are more then two dozen sitting BJD legislators and the chief minister from Hinjili in the state's Ganjam district.
Orissa will go to polls in two phases on April 16 and 23 to elect 147 members to the state assembly and 21 representatives to parliament. During the first phase, polling will be held in 10 Lok Sabha and 70 assembly seats.
