Super snail Heikka is the world's fastest!

London, July 22 (ANI): Super snail Heikka, named after Lewis Hamilton's Formula One teammate Heikki Kovalainen, raced to victory in this year's World Snail Racing Championships.

Heikki, owned by 13-year-old Georgie Brown from East Winch, Norfolk, triumphed leaving his rivals trailing in his slime with a time of three minutes, two seconds.

Brown saw him overcome over 200 garden snails, battling it out over the 13-inch course in their quest to become World Champion.

"Georgie entered a couple of years ago and got through to the finals, but unfortunately last year was rained off," the Telegraph quoted Polly Brown, Georgie's mother, as saying.

"We entered at the last minute, and just grabbed a few snails from the garden, as you do, and Heikki managed to get through to the final and win. Georgie's over the moon," she added.

The annual event at Congham, near King's Lynn in Norfolk, is over 30 years old, and although there are a number of imitations, it is the only recognised World Championship. (ANI)
