IOC urges football to adopt doping codes

Denver(Colorado), March 26 (DPA) The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has urged world football governing body FIFA to agree to the World Anti-Doping Agency's recent code for doping tests.

Under the rule, which came to effect Jan 1, athletes must make their whereabouts known for one hour every day of the year.

FIFA has so far refused to implement the code, citing the invasion of player privacy during periods away from teams, such as holidays.

IOC President Jacques Rogge said Wednesday in Denver, Colorado, that he was confident that the disagreement with FIFA could be worked out before a WADA meeting May 10 in Montreal.

WADA and the IOC have suggested that there could be flexibility in the way testing for team sports is conducted which, might satisfy some FIFA objections.
