Ganguly supports IPL shift to South Africa

National,Sports, Wed, 25 Mar 2009 IANS

Kolkata, March 25 (IANS) Terming elections as the biggest event in India, former cricket captain Sourav Ganguly Wednesday supported the Indian Premier League's (IPL) move to shift the second edition of the Twenty20 competition to South Africa.

'In India, vote is bigger than all issues,' Ganguly told reporters here.

'Security is a concern. Since they have no other options, the franchisees chose South Africa,' he said.

Ganguly felt the conditions in South Africa would suit stroke play. 'The pitch is such that the ball comes to the bat.'

Drawing comparisons between pitches of the past with those now, he said: 'Tracks everywhere are undergoing changes. Twenty20 is a batsman's game. I think the tracks will be full of runs.'
