Marijuana worth 15 million rupees seized in Siliguri

Siliguri, Mar 25 (ANI): In a major haul, custom officials seized a huge consignment of Marijuana worth 15 million rupees in Siliguri.

 

Acting on information, the officials of Preventive Wing of Siliguri Customs Department chased a truck carrying coal, from which they recovered around 3.5 tons of Marijuana concealed in 177 packets, which they suspect to have come from Manipur.

 

"We recovered approximate 3 to 3.5 tons ganja which is concealed under the coal. The investigations are going on," said Subir Kumar Chakraborty, Deputy Revenue Inspector, Preventive Wings, Siliguri Customs.

 

Though no arrests have been made so far, investigations are on to find the culprits.

 

Marijuana is a psychoactive drug extracted from the plant cannabis sativa.

 

The northeastern belt of India has recently become a favourite transit point used by drug peddlers for smuggling the drugs.

 

These consignments are mainly meant for places like Kolkata, Patna and places in Nepal. (ANI)
