EC to probe Mulayam remarks against IAS officer
Lucknow, Mar 24 (IANS) The Election Commission will inquire into reports that Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav had made disparaging remarks against a woman IAS officer in Uttar Pradesh.
Yadav, while addressing a public rally in Mainpuri district Monday, had reportedly said that district magistrate Ministhy Dileep was not probably aware of who was contesting from Mainpuri and should have her brain checked.
'She (Ministhy) is a woman and that is why I am not making any comments on her. She should get her brain checked and should be aware of the fact that Mulayam is contesting from here (Mainpuri)', Yadav was shown by local news channels as saying in the rally.
According to reports, Yadav made the comments after his local party workers blamed Ministhy for confiscating licensed arms of people supporting the party as they were being used to threaten rival supporters.
'We received a report from the district administration today morning and have forwarded the same to the Election Commission,' chief election officer A.K.Bishnoi told reporters here Tuesday evening.
The report contains the CD of the speech and other details and further action will be initiated after we receive further directions from the Election Commission, he added.
Ministhy is also the returning officer of Mainpuri district, 250 kms from here.
