One person of the family either the head of the family or another earning one will be insured.
50% of the annual premium will be borne by the central government and other 50% by the state government. Apart from this help would be provided to the school-going children of such beneficiaries. Two children of the beneficiaries studying in 9 th to 12 th class will be given assistance of 300 rupees every quarter.
Rupees 30,000 will be provided if the insured meets natural death while one who comes across accidental death or permanent disability will receive Rs.75, 000. Those who suffer partial disability will get 37,000 rupees. The scheme is in tune with the promises made in the National Common Minimum Programme by the government.

State government will operate the scheme. But the fund of Rs. 1,000 crore created by the scheme would be with LIC. Additional fund of Rs. 500 crore would be created to provide assistance in the form of scholarship to help the children of such beneficiaries.
