Chhattisgarh family arrested for abducting trader
Raipur, March 22 (IANS) Seven people, including five of a family, were arrested here for allegedly abducting a trader for a ransom of Rs.5 million, police today said.
'Acting on a tip off, police raided a flat at Surya Vihar Apartment near Pachpedhi Naka area late Saturday and secured the release of 39-year-old trader Sunil Waswani. He was tied with an iron chain and blind-folded,' Inspector General of Police D.M. Awasthi told reporters.
Waswani was abducted by masked men Thursday from the Civil Lines here.
Seven people -- Dilshad Khan, his wife, 21-year-old son, his two daughters aged 15 and 17, and two young men allegedly hired for kidnapping Waswani -- have been arrested.
'The trader was kidnapped to get a ransom of Rs.5 million as the family had incurred debts to the tune of Rs.3.5 million,' Awasthi said.
He said the family was 'deep in debt as they were habituated to leading a lavish lifestyle'.
