Dharamshala gears up to host IPL matches

Dharamshala, Mar 21 (ANI): Dharamsala hopes to emerge as a likeable venue for international cricket, even as preparations are in full swing at the town's picturesque cricket stadium for the second edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

 

Dharamsala expects to host four matches, after the league commences from April 10.

 

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal has assured that the state government will provide foolproof security during the event.

 

"The state officers have made an assessment and have approved a decision to provide security. The State Government will give security and if more security is needed, the Central Government will be approached," said Dhumal.

 

Dhumal said that by hosting the IPL matches, the state and would get a boost.

 

"It is a big event from tourism point of view and it will encourage the sport and sports lovers. Hosting this event has been welcomed by experts, journalists and especially the ones who are keen for the state of progress," said Dhumal.

 

The stadium is being renovated as per international standards and the installation of floodlights would be completed in the coming few weeks.

 

Cricket lovers in Dharamshala are keen to view IPL matches.

 

"This is a good place to host matches. The matches here will be worth watching. As you know many international players come to play IPL, so, this will create a friendly attitude between nations. It will also spread tourism," said Vikrant, a local resident.

 

The schedule for the IPL tournament that was to be held from April 10-May 24 has been changed three times as the Home Ministry has expressed security concerns about holding the tournament simultaneously to elections.By: Akhilesh Bharti(ANI)
