High Court rejects Vikas Yadav's plea on jurisdiction

New Delhi, March 20 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Friday rejected a plea by Vikas Yadav and his cousin Vishal, who have been sentenced to life term in a murder case, that a Delhi court does not have the jurisdiction to hear the case as the incident occurred in Uttar Pradesh.

In 2005, the Supreme Court had transferred the case from a Ghaziabad court to Delhi after which the duo had filed the petition.

Justice S. Muralidhar dismissed the plea and stated that there was no merit in the petition as the apex court had already made the issue of jurisdiction clear.

In June last year, Vikas, son of Uttar Pradesh politician D.P. Yadav, and his cousin Vishal were sentenced to life imprisonment for killing Nitish Katara, an MBA graduate, as they opposed his intimacy with their sister Bharti Yadav.

The two men had kidnapped Katara on the night of Feb 16, 2002, from a marriage party in Ghaziabad and later killed him.
