New Delhi, March 19 (IANS) A city court Thursday sentenced a brother-sister duo to life imprisonment for murder of a man following a property dispute.
'I sentence both the convicts Suraiya and Mohd Fazal to imprisonment for life,' said Additional Sessions Judge Poonam A. Bamba. The prosecution plea for death penalty was rejected by the court.
Shakeel-ur-Rehman, a resident of Hazarat Nizamuddin here, had purchased a plot of land from the convicts for Rs.1 crore (Rs 10 million).
On April 6, 2003, the convicts had objected to the construction of a wall at the site by the victim which led to his murder.
During the probe, the two confessed to the offence and helped recover the decomposed body of the victim from a place in Haridwar.
The court also held Mohan Seth guilty as he had helped the duo dispose off the body.
It also imposed a fine of Rs.4,000 on each of them after holding them guilty under various provisions of Indian Penal Code dealing with murder, conspiracy and destruction of evidence.
