Pakistan Foreign Secretary arrives in India

Tue, 01 Jan 2008 ANI

Wagah Border (Punjab), July 20 (ANI): Pakistan Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir arrived in India on Sunday for the foreign secretary-level talks with his Indian counterpart.

India and Pakistan are set to launch the fifth round of the composite dialogue process on Monday.

Bashir has arrived in India to resume peace talks between the two countries following suspicion of Pakistan's hand in deadly bomb attack on the Indian embassy in Kabul.

"Essentially this is all about peace and building bridges of friendship between Pakistan and India," said Bashir.

Efforts to build trust received a setback last week when India's national security adviser blamed Pakistan's intelligence service for a suicide car-bomb attack in Kabul that killed 41 people, including two Indian diplomats.

While ties have warmed since a peace process started in 2004, after the countries nearly went to a fourth war, there has been little progress in their main dispute over Kashmir, and both suspect each other's involvement in revolts raging in border areas.

The government also faces a confidence vote in parliament on Tuesday and with doubts about its survival, analysts say there will be no breakthroughs between the two sides. (ANI)
