Bangladesh cricketers get 30 percent pay hike

Asia, Thu, 19 Mar 2009 IANS

Dhaka, March 19 (IANS) Salaries of players and staff of Bangladesh's national cricket team, which has been depleted by massive exodus to the Indian Cricket League (ICL), has been raised by 30 percent.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) directors decided on this at a late evening meeting Wednesday. They accepted that it was long overdue.

In another major move, the BCB will purchase land suitable for cricket stadiums across the country on a priority basis.

BCB's media committee chairman Jalal Yunus said the contracts of national team operations manager Shafiqul Haque Hira, fielding coach Mohammad Salah Uddin and computer analyst Nasir Ahmed have been extended by another year.

The contract of national team bowling coach, Sri Lanka's Champaka Ramanayeke, has been extended until the end of Bangladesh's tour of the West Indies later this year.

The board approved the Bangladesh under-19 team's tour of England next month. The board is also making arrangements for the forthcoming Bangladesh tour of the Sri Lanka and South Africa Academy teams.
