Colombo, March 18 (IANS) Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) will review the security situation in India before sending its players to take part in the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL).
A top SLC official said that the board would talk with the players before giving them the green signal for the Twenty20 tournament slated to start from April 10.
'We have to talk to the players (who are playing in the IPL tournament) and then with the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) on the security related issues before sending them for the tournament,' D.S. de Silva, SLC's newly appointed chairman of the interim administration, told reporters here Wednesday.
De Silva's remarks come at a time when the organisers of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the BCCI are struggling to finalise the schedule for the upcoming tournament, which is clashing with India's general elections.
The new interim administration of the SLC took over duties Monday, nearly three months after the Sports Minister Gamini Lokkuge sacked the former interim administration led by the World Cup winning captain Arjuna Ranatunga.
'Let us erase the negative aspect of the past and concentrate on the development of the game. Our immediate attention will be to focus on the next two years,' De Silva said.
In June, Sri Lanka will be travelling to England for the Twenty20 World Cup and will host New Zealand and Pakistan in July before leaving for South Africa for the Championship Trophy. Later this year they will again host India.
'It is of paramount importance that we at SLC do everything possible for our cricketers to get into top gear and keep themselves fit mentally and physically for these crucial tournaments and tours,' De Silva said.
