Washington, March 17 (IANS) An Indian American doctor has performed successful hip surgery on Catherine Eugenia 'Jean' Biden, the 91-year-old mother of US Vice President Joe Biden.
The procedure was performed Monday by Samir Mehta, chief of the Division of Orthopaedic Trauma at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and involved applying a plate and screw device to Mrs. Biden's hip, according to the White House.
Mrs. Biden is now 'recovering well and is in stable condition,' the vice president's spokesperson Elizabeth Alexander said in a statement. 'Dr. Mehta is pleased with the outcome of the surgery.'
Mrs. Biden was admitted to the University of Pennsylvania hospital after falling in her home in Delaware Sunday.
