Dineshpur (Uttarakhand), Mar 16 (ANI): Authorities in Uttarakhand are keen to develop the Haripura Water Park, frequented by bird watchers as a prominent tourist destination to spot Siberian cranes and other migratory birds.
Haripura Water Park, located near the Hariprua Dam, overlaps the Districts of Udahm Singh Nagar and Nainital.
A large variety of migratory birds make this region as their winter homes to breed and nest. And these number over 140 species of migratory birds.
Birds like Northern Shoveler, Northern Pintail, Ruddy Shelduck, Red Crested Pochard, Common Mergansar, Godwel, Black Stork, Purpul Heron and IndianCormorant are some of the migratory birds that flock in the area.
Despite its potential to become a favourable eco-tourism hub, all these years, Haripura Water Park had failed to draw the desired number of bird watchers and other tourists.
In tune with 'better late than never', now the authorities have resolved to upgrade the sanctuary as an ideal tourist destination and lure visitors from all over the world.
"Haripura Water Park has the potential to develop as a tourist spot in the coming days, particularly for the bird watchers. Thousands of birds come here every year and a variety of resident and migratory birds are seen here. We must capitalise and develop the tourism potential of this paradise," said Parang Madhukar, Divisional Forest Officer of Terai Central Forest Range, Uttarakhand.
Jagdish Chandra, a resident reiterated that the birds are a pleasing sight to watch and the mankind ought to appreciate the natural wonder.
"These birds come every year in the winter season. These birds are spotted in the Haripura Water Park. They look very colourful and nice to see," said.
