Lucknow, Mar 15 (ANI): Bollywood actor and Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate from Lucknow Sanjay Dutt on Sunday delivered his first political speech and promised to work for the betterment of the city.

"I am with you. We will work together for the progress of Lucknow," Dutt said while addressing a large gathering of party activists and his fans here.

Dutt also said he would dedicate himself for the party as it was now like a family to him.

"Amar Singh and Mulaym Singh Yadav told me that the day you wear the red cap you will be a member of our family. I feel like I am now part of the family. I want to say that I will take stick blows with you and even bullets. We will fight elections together," Dutt said pointing to his red cap.

However, Dutt's nomination hinges on the Election Commission's decision, since he has been convicted to a jail term of six years in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts case.

Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh, who was also present on the occasion, mentioned the actor's famous' Gandhigiri in the movie 'Lage Raho Munnabhai'.

"If Lalji Tandon (Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate from Lucknow) is having Atal Behari Vajpayee's wooden sandals and his sister Mayawati's (Bahujan Samaj Party Chief and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister) blessings, our Sanjay has Gandhigiri," Singh said. (ANI)
