Bhupathi through to second round, Sania falters in doubles

Indian Wells (California), March 14 (IANS) India's Mahesh Bhupathi and his partner from the Bahamas Mark Knowles reached the second round in men's doubles but it was the end of road for Sania Mirza and her doubles partner Chia-Jung Chuang at the BNP Paribas Open here.

 

Bhupathi-Knowles, seeded third, overcame an initial challenge from Russians Igor Kunitsyn and Dmitry Tursunov before winning 7-5, 6-3 Friday.

 

 

In the women's doubles, Sania from India and Chuang from Taiwan were brushed aside by Israeli Shahar Peer and Gisela Dulko 1-6 , 4-6 in the first round.

 

 

Sania will meet 12th-seeded Flavia Panneta in the second round of the singles.
