Aug 23: Ban Ki Moon’s unilateral rejection of the application for membership in the international organisation of sovereign states UN has evoked different reactions from international community as well as China.

Though China has expressed annoyance over criticism of a US paper of Ban’s decision not to entertain the application and violate the rules of the organization saying that majority of the international community considers Taiwan a part of China so rejection of the application is justified and unimpeachable. China accepted it as a sessionist attempt on part of Chen, the president of Taiwan.

On the other hand People from Taiwan have expressed annoyance over the unilateral rejection of the application for the membership in UN by the UN General secretary Ban Ki Moon and said that the application should have been forwarded to the General Assembly and Moon does not have the right to decide that Taiwan is a part of China.

This is to be known that since 1949 as a consequence of civil war and split between China and Taiwan leaders are insistent on getting recognition as the legitimate government

Taiwan has a prominent place in global economy and played important role in health care of the world. Taiwan is recognised by various countries of the world as an independent and sovereign country including Gautamala, Nicaragua. Ardent supporter of the cause of Taiwan is Honduras.

Taiwanese president Chen Chui-Bian is on a nine-day visit to central America to muster support from the countries. His ally Honduras recognises Taiwan as a sovereign and independent country and also supports its bid to UN membership as has been announced by Honduran president Jose Manuel Zelaya Rosales.

Same has been accepted by Taiwanese president in an interview with the BBC that there is no need to declare Taiwan independent fresh as it is an independent country for more than half a century and does not fall under the jurisdiction of the People’s Republic of China.

President is also ready to deal with china’s military attack on taiwan if the situation arises. He also asserted Taiwan’s right to participate in the world organization. He also said his country share common values with Taiwan. They respect human rights and believe in the equality of all countries.

There is free trade agreements between the two, visa free pact for diplomatic personnel, there are discussions on environment, energy and other issues like happen to be between two sovereign nations. Guatemalan president Oscar Berger also supports his membership of UN and is among other 24 countries who recognise Taiwan as a sovereign country.

Ban Ki Moon is a joke because he does not follow the UN's rules being a puppet of the evil Communist Chinese. He definitely is not qualified for the UN secretary-general position.

It is true that the United Nations and the United States are not obligated to help Taiwan win a seat in the UN. But it is also a SHAME that the UN and the US have not chastized China for deploying nearly a thousand of missiles pointing at Taiwan. China's military build up, aiming at Taiwan, is reprimandable and must be stopped right away. Would Taiwan be so eager to gain international recognition if Beijing would stop being such a threatening neighbor? Taiwan is merely exercising its fight or flight instinct. Why is the US so anxious to demolish the dictatorship in Iraq but snuggles in bed with a communist bully to oppress the democratically-minded Taiwan? The UN and the US must condemn China, not just for the sake of Taiwan, but for the sake of protecting the principle of freedom. China must learn it cannot just snatch whatever it wants like a spoiled brat. The sad thing is, its the UN and the US that are spoiling the bully.

Blocking Taiwan from the United Nations benefits no one. Taiwan's alienation is a direct violation of the UN charters, as well as the entire democratic movement.

Mr. Ban Ki-moon's decision to bypass the Security Council and the General Assembly is demonstrative of his lack of leadership. In fact, it should be a brow-raising issue for UN members on why the UN chief is kowtowing to the Beijing government repeatedly while neglecting the interests of the world citizens.

China's action against Taiwan is only instigating further anomosity from the Taiwanese people. It is a double-lose situation if China continues to pommel Taiwan into the solitary unit. It will only induce more hatred and cross-strait contention.

Once again, the question is does TW's international participation bring benefits to the world? The answer: a resolute YES!

The dispute on Taiwan's UN bid should not even exist at all because there should be no debate on Taiwan's rightful participation in the international world.

Fact: Taiwan has 23 million people who are not represented in the UN or the World Health Organization.

Fact: Taiwan's official name is REpublic of China, which is listed in the current UN charter as a member of the Security Council.

Fact: China has never officially voted by the General Assembly to be part of the UN. It replaced the regime of Chiang Kai-shek who has been dead for over 30 years.

Fact: So far, the UN nor China has ever been able to prove that Taiwan ISN'T a sovereign country and I would like to see them try.

Fact: By not being part of the UN, Taiwan is not legally responsible to follow any UN rules. Which means Taiwan can kill as many tunas as they want, and the IOTC has no way to punish Taiwan. Taiwan can conceal information on contagious diseases and the WHO can't do anything about it. Genocide can take place and the International Criminal Court can never touch the killer.

Fact: Taiwan's UN isolation means Taiwan can never donate money or energy to programs such as UNICEF, UN Millenium Development Goals, the WHO, or even in the international anti-terriorism forces.

The question that people should ask is why is China so afraid to let Taiwan be part of the UN? Why does China trembles whenever Taiwan sneezes? Why is China such a bully? Anyone who has any remote knowledge on bullies is that bullies often lack in self-confidence, self-control and cognitive compentence. Is the Chinese government a huge nut case?
