Tue, 01 Jan 2008 ANI

London, July 18 (ANI): American motion picture director Robert Redford has joined a drive to fight against a coal-fired power station being built in Britain.

Redford, 70, stressed the disadvantages of coal in a message to campaigners against the Kingsnorth station in Kent.

"Coal plants are bad for health, bad for the environment," Daily Mirror quoted the actor as saying.

"They contribute greatly to climate impacts and there are sensible alternatives involving conservation and sustainable sources of energy," he added.

His statement is to be read to a protest meeting in Chatham. (ANI)
