5th phase of UP Assembly Polls begins today

April 28: The fifth phase of assembly elections, which covers 57 constituencies, has begun this morning in Uttar Pradesh. Government has made tight security arrangements in all the constituencies of 9 districts.

Police and Para military forces have been deployed at 15,692 polling stations.

Uttar Pradesh is a key state so far as elections and polling is concerned. The polls here directly affect the administration at state and central level. Amid the competition and strict rivalry the government has provided for the possible security measures in all the nine districts including Lucknow, Allahabad, Fizabad, Rae Bareli, Sultanpur, Pratapgarh, Fatehpur and Chitrakoot, to ensure free and fair election. More than 1.6 crore of people are likely to participate and decide the fate of 850 candidates.

Some of the biggest names including the state minister Naresh Agarwal, opposition leader Lalji Tandon, Congress leader Pramod Tiwari, SP leader and state minister Naresh Agarwal and independent candidate Raja Bhaiya, Akhilesh Kumar are also waiting for the results.

Some assemblies in Amethi, which are considered as the strong hold of the Gandhi and Nehru family and parliamentary constituencies of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Lucknow, are also going to polls in this phase.
