Patna, March 11 (IANS) To express solidarity with the victims of last year's devastating floods in the Kosi river, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar refrained from celebrating Holi, and instead spent the day reading books and meeting officials.

This is the second successive year the chief minister did not celebrate Holi. Last year following the death of his wife, he had not celebrated the festival.

When a group of journalists reached his residence at Anne Marg, an official said: 'The chief minister greeted us on the occasion and spent his time reading books and went through some important files'.

This year Railways Minister Lalu Prasad too did not celebrate the festival. In the afternoon Lalu Prasad came out from his residence and greeted his party workers and well-wishers. He also exchanged some Gulal with party workers quietly.
