Aug 22: Shibu Soren is acquitted in Sashinath Jha murder case by Delhi High Court on Wednesday.

The court said that the prosecution has failed miserably to prove the case against Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MP Shibu Soren, who was facing murder and abduction charges.

Sashinath Jha was his secretary, who was abducted from Dhaula Kuan and murdered in the year 1994 in Ranchi.

Shibu Soren was found guilty by a lower court in the killing of his secretary Sashinath Jha 12 year’s ago. Jha was said to be aware of the bribe received by Shibu Soren to support the minority government of P.V Narshima Rao in 1993.

CBI exhumed a skeleton in 1998 after four year of Sashinath’s death, but the DNA sample taken from the skeleton did not matched to Sashinath Jha’s family member.

Last year CBI told that Sashinath allegedly demanded money to suppress the case which he was aware of and this led to his murder.

He stepped down after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh sought his resignation when he was convicted last year in this conspiracy, he was Union Coal Minister. Others convicted in the case are also let of by the court – they are Nand Kishore Mehta alias Nandu, Shailendra Bhattacharya, Pashupati Nath Mehta alias Posho and Ajay Kumar Mehta alias Dillip.

With the acquittal of their minister, celebration has begun in Jharkhand Mukti Morcha party members are now asking that Shibu Soren should be reinstated.

Sashinath’s brother reacted to this news and said that no faith has left in judiciary, but will appeal against the acquittal in the Supreme Court.
