New Delhi, March 10 (IANS) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh spent time with 40 Muslim school students on the occasion of Eid-e-Milad-ud-Nabi, the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammed, at his residence here Tuesday.

'The girls, from Class 1 to 12, joined the prime minister and his wife Gursharan Kaur. All of them were mostly from schools in the walled city,' said a prime ministerial aide. 'The children recited Quranic verses.'

This is the first occasion when Manmohan Singh has taken part in such an event after undergoing a cardiac bypass surgery in January.

Earlier this month, the prime minister had his first official engagement, a meeting with Benin President Boni Yayi.

Since returning to his official residence Feb 1, Manmohan Singh has been fairly active but under medical supervision.

At home, the prime minister has been in touch with key ministers and is regularly briefed by his aides.
