Power utility casual workers demonstrate in Kashmir for proper wages
Jammu, Mar 6 (ANI): Hundreds of striking casual workers of the state-run power utility in Jammu and Kashmir demonstrated here demanding better working conditions and proper benefits.
They gathered outside the office of the power development commissioner to press their demands.
Members of the Daily Wagers Association demanded regularization of services of contractual and ad-hoc employees.
"We have been asking the government for 14 years to do something for us. We have been asking for the regularisation of the posts and to give our salary every month. But all our pleas have been fallen on deaf ears," said Kulbeer Singh, president of the Daily Wagers Association.
"About 2,000 people work on daily wages and about 150 to 200 people who work on power facilities have been injured due to electric shock. The government has not given any assistance so far. We will continue our strike till our demand is not met," added Tarun Gupta, a daily wage earner.
The Association had earlier staged demonstration on February 20 and March 2 and threatened to intensify the agitation unless their demands were met. (ANI)
